Kitchen renovations are always a little scary. We all dream of having the best kitchen we can afford but when the time comes to start a renovation we can’t help but feel a little lost and a little afraid. Questions such as “Will I be able to make all decisions that come with a renovation?” and “What’s the best cabinet paint color, best flooring, best appliances, best layout…?” will always come to our mind and make us feel exhausted even before we start.
Edward Deegan Architects and interior designer Katy Hardison (recently featured on the blog: “Empty-Nester Modern Farmhouse” – a must-see post!), not only guided these homeowners with the renovation of their white kitchen but also helped them reinvent the layout of their outdated home. Here, they share more details:
“Our clients wanted a light and bright designed space that felt welcoming. The original layout of the house before had no flow and none of the finishes coordinated. Our clients wanted their new spaces to feel cohesive. The kitchen became the center of the house with a dining room that could hold our clients 20 person table for dinner parties & Holidays. The location of the bar was a challenge because the husband wanted it to feel a part of the kitchen but didn’t want to take up valuable kitchen storage. We love how the contrasting wood elements make this more than just a white kitchen!”

“The planking ceiling is reclaimed wood that was wired brushed and then waxed. The reclaimed beams were sanded and then waxed as well. They are not true beams.
